FRANKLIN, Mass. - March 26, 2023 - The Dean College baseball team dropped both ends of Sunday's doubleheader to Lasell as each team began Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action. Lasell won the first game 12-2 and game two 10-5.
Teams will play a 7-inning first game and a 9-inning second game in conference doubleheaders this season. Â Â
Dean (1-12, 0-2 GNAC) plays at Trinity on Monday for a makeup game from March 14. Lasell (7-5, 2-0 GNAC) travels to Bridgewater State on Tuesday.
GAME ONE – Lasell 12, Dean 2 (7 inn.)
Lasell struck first in the second inning with a two-run homer by Jared Whitby (Groton, Mass.). The Lasers added a third run on an error.
Sophomore
Trent Bender (Binghamton, N.Y.) doubled in
James Galati (Eastchester, N.Y.) in the bottom of the third to put Dean on the board.
The Lasers scored seven times on eight hits in the fourth inning to take a 10-1 lead. Junior Ross Audet (Swansea, Mass.) had the big hit in the frame with a two-run single to left.
Dean got a run back in the bottom half of the inning on a
Seth Cruz (East Freetown, Mass.) single that scored senior
Andrew Sullivan (Agawam, Mass.).
The visitors tacked on a pair of runs in the seventh on a Christopher Bulk (Portsmouth, R.I.) solo homerun and an error to make the final 12-2.
Sophomore Matthew Fletcher (Wethersfield, Conn.) earned the win for the Lasers with 6 IP, 2 ER and 7 K.
Sophomore
Danny Goyette (Holliston, Mass.) pitched well out of the bullpen for Dean with 3 2-3 IP and 1 ER.
Senior
Brayden McLaughlin (Forest Grove, Ore.) led Dean with two hits.
Whitby, Audet and Bryan Baumann (Deerfield, Mass.) each had three hits for Lasell.
GAME TWO – Lasell 10, Dean 5 (9 inn.)
The second game featured just one inning in which there were no runs scored.
Dean opened things in the first with a RBI single by Sullivan.
Lasell took a 2-1 lead in the second on a pair of hits from Audet and Owen Caldwell (South Kingstown, R.I.).
The Bulldogs tied things in the bottom half with a
Tyler Giambra (Prospect, Conn.) RBI single.
Matthew Bischof (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) gave the visitors a 3-2 lead with an RBI double in the top of the third.
The Lasers benefited from a Dean miscue to push their lead to 5-2 in the fifth.
The Bulldogs responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame. First-yearÂ
Jacob Paschetto (East Longmeadow, Mass.) doubled in Giambra and then scored on a Sullivan groundout.
Dean tied things at 5-5 in the sixth with a Giambra RBI triple that scored Bender.
Lasell then scored one in the seventh, three in the eighth and one in the ninth to secure a 10-5 victory.
Giambra went 3 for 3 with two RBIs and a run to lead Dean.
