BOSTON, Mass. – March 22, 2023 – The Dean College women's lacrosse team dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) road game at Simmons, 23-3, on Saturday afternoon.
Dean (3-3, 3-2 GNAC) travels to Nichols on Monday for a non-conference tilt with the Bison at 4 p.m. Simmons (6-2, 4-0 GNAC) hosts Colby-Sawyer on Monday at 7 p.m.
Senior
Maire Brown (Huntington, N.Y.) led the Bulldogs with a goal, an assist and 11 draw controls. Senior
Jazzy Sztyler-Magee (Burlington, Conn.) and sophomore
Haley Gaunt (Johnston, R.I.) also scored a goal.
Graduate student Abby Stoller (Wayland, Mass.) led the Sharks with five goals. Sophomore Frida Turriza (Windham, N.H.) was next with four goals and an assist.
First-year goalie
Allie Stockwell (Burrillville, R.I.) had four saves for Dean. Senior Katie Castle (North Waterboro, Maine) also had four saves in the win for Simmons.
Simmons scored a pair in the first minute and a half, but Dean answered with a goal by Sztyler-Magee to cut the deficit in half. After two more goals by the Sharks in the next minute, Brown put Dean's second goal on the board to make the score 4-2. Simmons then took control by scoring four more times before the end of the first.
The Sharks continued to increase their lead by outscoring Dean 6-0 in the second quarter.
The home team added four goals in the third for an 18-2 margin.
Simmons tacked on five goals in the fourth, while Gaunt recorded a goal for Dean.
