Bates Powers Past Bulldogs 18-6

FRANKLIN, Mass. - March 23, 2023 - The Dean College baseball team was defeated by Bates, 18-6, on a cool and rainy Thursday afternoon at the Longley Athletic Complex.

Dean (1-10) is scheduled to begin conference action on Saturday at home against Lasell. Bates (7-2) plays at MIT tomorrow at 3 p.m.

Bates led 8-0 by the third inning after a run in the first, two in the second and five in the third. The big hit came off the bat of Dylan Azcarate (Tiburon, Calif.) who blasted a two-run homer to left center.

Dean cut into the deficit with runs in the third and fourth on an Andrew Sullivan (Agawam, Mass.) RBI double and a run scoring fielder's choice by first-year Jacob Paschetto (East Longmeadow, Mass.).

The Bobcats added a run in the sixth on a sac fly by Jack Brennan (West Hartford, Conn.).

The Bulldogs responded with a pair in the bottom of the sixth on Paschetto's first collegiate home run, scoring senior Brian Dovidio (Ramsey, N.J.).

Bates plated five in the seventh to put the game out of reach. Drew Fallon (Mansfield, Mass.) knocked in two with a single up the middle.

The visitors added one in the eighth before Dean answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame on a Kyle Lancaster (Dartmouth, Mass.) single to right.

Bates tacked on three more in the ninth for the 18-6 victory.

Fallon and Brennan each had three hits to lead Bates.

Dovidio went 2 for 2 with two walks and scored three runs for Dean. James Galati (Eastchester N.Y.) added a couple of hits in four at-bats.

Noah Timmer (Keene, N.H.) earned the victory with 5 IP and 2 ER.

First-year Jared Dussman (Maplewood, N.Y.) gave up one hit in two scoreless innings of relief for the Bulldogs.
