Saint Joseph's Pulls Away in Third to Defeat Women's Lacrosse

FRANKLIN, Mass. – March 22, 2023 – The Dean College women's lacrosse team fell to Saint Joseph's, 20-8, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game Wednesday afternoon at Grant Field.

Dean (3-2, 3-1 GNAC) plays on Saturday at Simmons with a 1 p.m. start. Saint Joseph's College (5-2, 3-0 GNAC) plays at Emmanuel on Saturday at noon.

Senior Jazzy Sztyler-Magee (Burlington, Conn.) led Dean with three goals and an assist. Sophomore Haley Gaunt (Johnston, R.I.) notched a hat trick. Senior Maire Brown (Huntington, N.Y.) finished with a goal, two assists and five draw controls. Sophomore Natalie Peterson (Hudson, Mass.) also scored a goal.

Saint Joseph's had eight players find the back of the net and was led by graduate student Lydia Dexter (Oakland, Maine). She tallied five goals, two assists, and five ground balls. Sophomores Shauna Clark (Oakland, Maine) and Mackenzie Siebert (Naples, Maine) each had three goals and two assists. Junior Teegan Gilreath (Lowell, Mass.) also scored three times.

First-year goalie Allie Stockwell (Burrillville, R.I.) registered 17 saves for Dean. Saint Joseph's goalie Alexis Eldridge (Effingham, N.H.) earned the win in 48 minutes with nine saves and four goals allowed. Sophomore Morgan Wright (Chelmsford, Mass.) played 12 minutes with four goals allowed and three saves.

The first seven minutes of action was back and forth with both teams executing on the offensive end of the field. Dean held a 4-3 lead before the Monks scored the final four goals of the first quarter to lead 7-4 after 15 minutes. Gilreath and Brianna Paul (Brattleboro, Vt.) had two goals apiece for the Monks, while Gaunt scored twice for Dean.

The Bulldogs began the second quarter with three straight goals, one each from Gaunt, Peterson and Sztyler-Magee, to tie the game at 7-7. From that point, Saint Joseph's took control with three consecutive scores by Dexter and another from Clark to end the first half with an 11-7 advantage.

The visitors continued to click on offense in the third and outscored Dean 6-0 in the frame. Dexter and Siebert each had a pair in the quarter.

Saint Joseph's tacked on three goals in the fourth to take a 20-7 lead before Sztyler-Magee scored the final goal of the game to make the final 20-8.
