Men's Volleyball Topped by Emmanuel

BOSTON, Mass. – March 21, 2023 – The Dean College men's volleyball team fell to Emmanuel, 3-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Tuesday night. The Saints won by scores of 25-11, 25-14 and 25-17.

Dean (3-10, 0-5 GNAC) travels to Emerson for a GNAC contest at 6 p.m. on Thursday. Emmanuel (11-10, 4-3 GNAC) will host Elms at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Senior Tyler Martins (East Providence, R.I.) led the Bulldogs with a team best six kills to go with five digs and a couple of aces. Senior Nick Carlson (Warwick, R.I.) chipped in with four kills. First-year Hunter Armitage (Westerly, R.I.) finished with nine assists, two kills and three digs.

Emmanuel hit .392 as a team and totaled 39 kills. First-year Michael Shelley (San Francisco, Calif.) hit .750 for a team-high six kills for the Saints. Sophomore Louis Da Silva (Marseille, France) added five kills on six attempts. First-year Dominic DeFerrari (Miami, Fla.) finished with 20 assists.

The home team began the action with an 11-6 run to force a Dean timeout. The Saints continued to apply pressure and extended their lead with a 7-3 spurt. After an Emmanuel service error stopped the run, the Saints ended the set on a 7-1 run to take the first by a 25-11 score.

In the second set, Dean took a 9-6 advantage after an Armitage kill. Emmanuel responded by scoring the next seven points to take a 13-9 lead. Kills by Carlson and Martins brought the Bulldogs to within one, but the home side pulled away late with a 12-3 run to win 25-14.

The Saints carried the momentum into the third to open with an 8-3 spurt and never looked back. The Bulldogs pulled within five but could not get any closer as the Emmanuel attack carried the team to a 25-17 third set victory.
