Dean Defeated by Massachusetts Maritime, 11-4

FRANKLIN, Mass. - March 21, 2023 - The Dean College baseball team fell to Massachusetts Maritime, 11-4, in non-conference action on a pleasant Tuesday afternoon at the Longley Athletic Complex.

Dean (1-9) is slated to host Bates on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. Maritime (7-4) hosts Gordon tomorrow at 4 p.m.

The Bulldogs struck in their first at-bat with an RBI triple by first-year Jacob Paschetto (East Longmeadow, Mass.) who then scored on a sac fly from senior Andrew Sullivan (Agawam, Mass.) to make the score 2-0.

The Buccaneers answered in the top of the second with three runs on one hit, benefiting from five walks in the inning.

Dean retook a 4-3 lead in the third when senior Brian Dovidio (Ramsey, N.J.) drove in Paschetto and then later scored on a throwing error during a single by Sullivan.

Maritime tied the game in the sixth on an RBI infield single by Conor Coulter (Whitman, Mass.).

The visitors plated four in the seventh to take an 8-4 lead. They scored on a couple of hits, a sac fly and a fielder's choice.

The Buccaneers added to their lead with three more runs in the eighth to secure the 11-4 victory.

Maritime hurler Hunter Dean (Plymouth, Mass.) tossed a complete game with three earned runs and five strikeouts.

Dean first-year pitcher Jacob Koble (Narragansett, R.I.) three two scoreless innings of relief for the Bulldogs.

Paschetto had three of Dean's 10 hits with a single, double, and triple. Sophomore Seth Cruz (East Freetown, Mass.) added two hits in five at-bats.

Junior Brett Velzis (Cypress, Texas) went 3 for 5 with two runs, while junior AJ Pietrafesa (Harwinton, Conn.) finished 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBI to lead the Bucs.
