FRANKLIN, Mass. - March 18, 2023 - The Dean College baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Fitchburg State on Saturday.
The games were originally scheduled to be played at Fitchburg State but were moved to Franklin after the winter storm impacted the Falcons' facilities.
GAME ONE: Fitchburg State 8, Dean 7 (10 inn.)
The Falcons scored single runs in the first and second before plating a pair in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead.
Dean answered with a five spot in the bottom of the fifth. SeniorÂ
Owen Liscio (Norwalk, Conn.) knocked in a pair with a single down the left field line. Senior
Andrew Sullivan (Agawam, Mass.) followed with an RBI hit to give the Bulldogs the 5-4 lead.
Fitchburg State responded with a pair in the sixth to retake a one run lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, sophomore
Trent Bender (Binghamton, N.Y.) came across with the tying run on a ground out from sophomore
James Galati (Eastchester, N.Y.).
Neither team scored for the next three innings.
The Falcons benefited from a miscue in the top of the 10th to score twice and take an 8-6 lead.
Dean got a run back in the bottom half on an RBI fielder's choice by Bender, but the side was later retired to end the game.
Sullivan and first-yearÂ
Jacob Paschetto (East Longmeadow, Mass.) each finished 2 for 4.
First-year
Hunter Espinosa (East Haddam, Conn.) worked around four walks to toss 2 2-3 scoreless innings of relief for the Bulldogs.
GAME TWO: Fitchburg State 15, Dean 4
The Falcons carried the momentum of a game one victory into game two and scored three times in the first.
The visitors plated nine in the third and three more in the top of the fourth to take a commanding 15-0 lead.
Dean got on the board in the bottom of the fourth on two-run single by senior
Brian Dovidio (Ramsey, N.J.) and a
Jacob Paschetto RBI single.
In the bottom of the sixth, Dean first-year
Ben Losee (Bloomington, Minn.) singled through the left side to score sophomoreÂ
Seth Cruz (East Freetown, Mass.) to make the score 15-4.
Paschetto added another two hits to his daily total.
First-year
Connor Nooney (Long Beach, N.Y.), first-year
Jacob Salvadore (Barre, Mass.) and first-year
Zach Handfield (Auburn, Mass.) each threw a scoreless inning of relief.
