Women's Lacrosse Secures 20-13 Win Over Elms

FRANKLIN, Mass. – March 16, 2023 – The Dean College women's lacrosse team scored seven times in the first and fourth quarters to earn a 20-13 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) over Elms on Thursday.

Today's victory is the first for the Bulldogs against Elms in five all-time meetings.

Dean (2-1, 2-0 GNAC) travels to Rivier (1-0, 0-0 GNAC) on Saturday for a 1 p.m. start with the Raiders. Elms (0-2, 0-2 GNAC) plays at Emmanuel (2-0, 1-0 GNAC) on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Dean senior Jazzy Sztyler-Magee (Burlington, Conn.) recorded eight goals and an assist to pace the Bulldogs. Senior Maire Brown (Huntington, N.Y.) tallied four goals, three assists and 10 draw controls. Sophomore Haley Gaunt (Johnston, R.I.) also scored four times.

Senior Taylor Borla (Southington, Conn.) led the Blazers with five goals and an assist. First-year Jackie Cronin (Smithtown, N.Y.) had five points on two goals and three assists. Senior Anna-Elise Pikul (Belchertown, Mass.) contributed three goals, one assist, and nine draw controls.

First-year goalie Allie Stockwell (Burrillville, R.I.) made 17 saves to secure the victory for Dean. Junior Gianna Liquori (East Longmeadow, Mass.) finished with 22 saves in the loss for Elms.

Elms got off to a hot start by scoring twice in the opening four minutes of action. Dean answered with three straight, two by Sztyler-Magee, to take a lead. After a Borla goal tied things at 3-3, the Bulldogs finished the quarter with four goals from four different players to lead 7-3 after 15 minutes.

Goals by Brown and Sztyler-Magee began the second quarter to push the home team lead to 9-3. Elms chipped away and pulled within 9-7 with four goals over the next nine minutes. Sztyler-Magee stopped the run, but Borla answered with her third tally of the frame to make the score 10-8 at halftime.

The visitors cut the deficit to a goal after scoring first in the third. Dean responded with three goals, two from Sztyler-Magee, before Pikul found the back of the net in the late moments of the quarter to make the margin 13-10 in favor of Dean.

Dean began to pull away with two goals each from Brown and Gaunt in the first 5+ minutes of the fourth to make the score 17-10. Each team would score three times in the final nine minutes of action to account for the 20-13 final.
