FRANKLIN, Mass. – March 11, 2023 –The Dean College women's lacrosse team earned a 20-13 victory over Regis in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener for both teams on a snowy Saturday at Grant Field.
Dean (1-1, 1-0 GNAC), who defeated Regis for the second season in a row, travels to Elms on Wednesday for a GNAC contest with the Blazers at 5 p.m. Regis (1-1, 0-1 GNAC) will host Albertus Magnus on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Dean senior
Jazzy Sztyler-Magee (Burlington, Conn.) scored 10 times and added two assists to lead all players. Sophomore
Haley Gaunt (Johnston, R.I.) tallied five goals, while senior
Maire Brown (Huntington, N.Y.) registered three goals and two assists. Brown added nine draw controls and eight ground balls. Sophomore
Nina Medeiros (Fairhaven, Mass.) had game highs of nine ground balls and five caused turnovers to go with a goal. Sophomore
Natalie Peterson (Hudson, Mass.) chipped in with a goal and an assist.
Junior Kylee Marley (Westerly, R.I.) led the Pride with four goals and two assists. Senior Morgan Pero (Hartford, Vt.) tallied two goals, two assists, five ground balls, five draw controls and four caused turnovers. Junior Mia Rogers (Revere, Mass.) contributed a hat trick.
First-year goalie
Allie Stockwell (Burrillville, R.I.) earned her first collegiate victory for the Bulldogs with 12 saves. First-year Daniela Mazo (Bridgeport, Conn.) had 13 saves for Regis in the loss.
The teams traded the first two goals of the game before Dean scored five straight to take a 6-1 lead with less than five minutes to play in the first. Regis stopped the run with a goal by Marley, but the Bulldogs ended the frame with a Gaunt tally to take a 7-2 lead into the next quarter.
Each team scored four times in the second. Marley scored twice for Regis, while Sztyler-Magee and Gaunt had two goals apiece for Dean.
Dean created separation in the third quarter by outscoring the Pride 8-3. Sztyler-Magee scored four more times to push the home team advantage to 19-9 after 45 minutes.
A Brown goal for the Bulldogs made the score 20-9, less than two minutes into the fourth. Regis would score the final four goals of the contest but ran out of time as Dean secured the 20-13 victory.
