MILTON, Mass. - March 1, 2023 - The Dean College women's lacrosse team dropped a season opener at Curry, 16-7, on Wednesday afternoon. 

Dean (0-1) travels to Nichols on Saturday for a noon game with the Bison. Curry (1-0) will play at UMass Dartmouth on Saturday.

Senior Maire Brown (Huntington, N.Y.) paced the Bulldogs with four goals and seven draw controls. Sophomore Natalie Peterson (Hudson, Mass.) scored twice, while first-year Alisha Caldeira (West Bridgewater, Mass.) notched her first collegiate goal. Peterson and Nina Medeiros (Fairhaven, Mass.) each added five draw controls. 

Curry was led by an 8-goal effort from Chloe Chevrier (West Suffield, Conn.).  Sophomore Grayson Goolgasian (Johnston, R.I.) finished with five points on four goals and an assist. 

Brown got the scoring started for the Bulldogs, 1:03 into the contest. Curry responded with a pair before another Brown tally. Chevrier would give the Colonels a 4-2 lead after scoring twice, but Brown notched a hat trick late in the quarter to pull Dean within a 4-3 score after 15 minutes. 

Curry outscored the visitors 6-2 in the second quarter behind three goals by Chevrier and a pair of Goolgasian to take a 10-5 lead at the half. 

In the third, the home team would add to its advantage by scoring three more times while holding Dean to two goals. Caldeira's tally came at the 9:02 mark of the frame. 

Curry tacked on three more goals in the fourth to account for the 16-7 final. 

First-year goalie Allie Stockwell (Burrillville, R.I.) had 11 saves in the loss for Dean. Sophomore netminder Vivi Helquist (Proctor, Minn.) earned the win for Curry with 10 saves. 

Dean held a 17-10 margin in draw controls.
