FRANKLIN, Mass. – March 1, 2023 – Dean College junior
Diego Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) scored nine times to lead the Bulldogs to a 17-10 victory over Russell Sage College (RSC) at Grant Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Dean (2-0) is slated to host Southern Maine on Saturday at noon. RSC (1-3) will return home to host Plattsburgh State at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Alvarez-Segee added an assist, seven ground balls and four caused turnovers for Dean. Junior
Alec Speirs (Old Lyme, Conn.) tallied three goals and three assists. Sophomore
Jason Richard (Holden, Mass.) contributed two goals and two assists. Junior
Tyler Benedetto (Jupiter, Fla.) picked up a game best nine ground balls and finished 19-of-29 at the faceoff circle.
Senior Anthony Abreu (Monroe, N.J.) led the Gators with five goals. Freshman Mame Diba (New York, N.Y.) came away with three points on a goal and a couple of assists, while Shea Obado (Spotswood, N.J.) chipped in with two goals. Sophomore defender Joe Johnson (Gansevoort, N.Y.) registered eight ground balls and five caused turnovers.
The Gators struck first with a man-up tally from Obado, 1:04 into the contest. Dean then scored seven unanswered, including five from Alvarez-Segee, to lead 7-1 after the first quarter.
Each team scored a pair in a low scoring second quarter to keep the halftime advantage at six for the Bulldogs, 9-3.
The visitors pulled within four, with goals from Abreu and Obado, in the first 5+ minutes of the third. Alvarez-Segee responded with two scores of his own before RSC tacked on a late goal to make the score 11-6 in favor of Dean heading into the fourth.
The Bulldogs scored the first three goals of the final frame to push their cushion to 15-7. RSC scored a couple times in the final two minutes of action to make the final 17-10.

James Rollins (Old Lyme, Conn.) improved to 2-0 with seven saves. RSC goalie Andrew Collora (West Babylon, N.Y.) suffered the loss and made 12 saves. Each goalie added three ground balls.
