FRANKLIN, Mass. – February 8, 2023 – The Dean College men's volleyball team got their first win of the season with a 3-1 home triumph over Fisher by scores of 25-13, 23-25, 25-13 and 25-18.
Dean (1-2) remains home on Saturday to host a tri-match against NVU-Johnson (11 a.m.) and King's (3 p.m.). Fisher (1-3) travels to Colby-Sawyer for a Saturday tri-match with the Chargers and Emmanuel.
For the second time in three matches, a Bulldog posted a triple-double. Senior
Tyler Martins (East Providence, R.I.) filled the stat sheet with match highs of 13 kills and 15 digs to go with 13 assists. First-year
Hunter Armitage (Westerly, R.I.) finished with 21 assists and six kills. Sophomore
Nunu Jackson (Fresno, Calif.) recorded nine kills and four aces, while junior
Aaron Fonseca (Cranston, R.I.) added 14 digs.
Fisher was led by Carlos Egipcoaco's 10 kills and 10 digs. Gustavo Cruz chipped in with eight kills.
The Bulldogs opened the match on a 6-1 run and cruised to the 25-13 win in the first set. The team later used an 8-0 run, capped by a Martins kill, to take a 20-7 lead. Jackson had three kills in the frame to lead Dean.
Fisher responded by taking the second set in close fashion, 25-23. The visitors took an early 9-4 lead and held the advantage throughout. Dean was able to pull within 18-17 on a Martins kill, but a 5-1 run by Fisher helped to secure the victory. Cruz had five of the Falcons' nine kills in the set.
Dean raced out to an 8-4 lead in the fourth to force a Fisher timeout. The Bulldogs had nine kills and six aces to cruise to the 25-13 win. Fonseca tallied three kills to lead Dean in the set.
The home team trailed early in the fourth, but registered 13 kills, six from Martins and four from Jackson, to turn things around and come away with the 25-18 victory.
