NEW HAVEN, Conn. – December 9, 2023 – The Dean College men's basketball team concluded first semester action with a 105-77 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) loss at defending conference champion Albertus Magnus.
The Bulldogs (5-5, 1-1 GNAC) return to the court on Jan. 2 for a 7 p.m. game at Lasell, which will not count towards the conference standings. The teams will meet later in January for the GNAC contest. Albertus Magnus (8-1, 2-0 GNAC) travels to Hunter on Monday.
Senior
AJ Weston (Kansas City, Mo.) scored 17 points and added six assists to lead Dean. Junior
Tommy Huynh (Albuquerque, N.M.) shot 5-8 for 14 points, while senior
Charles Walker (Princeton, N.C.) contributed 13 points. Sophomore
Moussa Berete (Richmond, Va.) was the fourth Bulldog in double figures with 11 points. Junior
Tyler Newsom (Pendleton, Ore.) pulled down a team best 10 caroms.
Justice Washington led the Falcons with 22 points and 17 rebounds. Antonio Bonilla made seven long balls for 21 points, while Jayquan Kirkland added 20 points off the bench.
Each team shot 40% in the first half, but Albertus Magnus made seven three-pointers to lead 42-30 at the break. The Falcons had a 20-19 edge in rebounding and each side converted five free throws. Berete had eight points to lead Dean, while Bonilla hit four long balls to lead the Falcons with 12 points.
In a high-scoring second half, Albertus continued to use the three-pointer to increase the advantage. The home team made seven more treys and won the battle of the boards by a 36-16 margin. Washington recorded 15 points and 12 rebounds to help lift the Falcons to the victory. Weston and Huynh had 11 points apiece for the Bulldogs.
