FRANKLIN, Mass. – November 8, 2023 – The Dean College women's basketball team was defeated by Curry, 84-36, in a season opener for both teams Wednesday evening inside Pieri Gymnasium.
Dean (0-1) plays at Mount Holyoke on Saturday at noon. Curry (1-0) travels to New York this weekend for a pair of games at the Elmira Tipoff Tournament.
Senior
Cat Thomas (Woodbridge, Conn.) led Dean with a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds. Junior
Tori Viau (Johnston, R.I.) contributed eight points and five rebounds. First-year
Kendrah Doane (New Salem, Mass.) tallied four points, six rebounds and two assists in her collegiate debut.
Curry was led by sophomore Lauren Dunn's (Hanson, Mass.) game-high 20 points. Sophomore Ellery Campbell (Rockland, Mass.) posted a double-double of 14 points and 10 boards off the bench. Freshman Lauren Morse (Holyoke, Mass.) finished with 16 points.
1st Quarter
- Curry led 15-9 after 10 minutes.
- Morse scored nine points on 3-3 from beyond the arc.
- Dean had four players score, led by Carly Rettberg's (Haddam, Conn.) three points.
2nd Quarter
- Curry shot 58.8% to outscore Dean 31-2 in the quarter.
- Dunn had 11 points for the Colonels.
3rd Quarter
- The Bulldogs defense held Curry to 31.8% from the floor in the third.
- Curry made 7-of-8 free throws.
- The visitors led 63-17 after 30 minutes.
4th Quarter
- Both teams shot at least 50% from the floor. Curry went 9-of-18, Dean was 7-of-12.
- Curry had a 21-19 advantage on the scoreboard in the final frame.
- Thomas had five points and four boards to lead the Bulldogs.
