Salve Regina Pulls Away in Second Half to Defeat Men's Basketball, 81-69

FRANKLIN, Mass. – November 21, 2023 – The Dean College men's basketball team dropped a home non-conference game to Salve Regina, 81-69, on Tuesday evening inside Pieri Gymnasium.  

The Bulldogs (2-3) return to the court on Monday with a 5:30 p.m. game at Framingham State. Salve Regina (3-2) plays at Colby on Sunday with a 1 p.m. tip.

Dean senior AJ Weston (Kansas City, Mo.) stuffed the stat sheet with a game best 20 points to go with five assists, five steals and four rebounds. Senior Charles Walker (Princeton, N.C.) poured in 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting. Senior Jayden Madise (Palmdale, Calif.) and sophomore Moussa Berete (Richmond, Va.) added 10 points apiece.

Salve Regina had six players score at least eight points led by sophomore Miles Fiore's (Narragansett, R.I.) 18 on 8-of-10 shooting. Junior Jojo Powers (Dedham, Mass.) registered 17 points, five assists and four steals. Junior Declan Walmsley (Franklin, Mass.) contributed 12 points and six boards. Junior James Jolly (Kingston, England) just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.

The Bulldogs led 41-35 at the half thanks to 59.3% shooting from the floor. Dean held an advantage for nearly 15 minutes of the frame and received 12 points apiece from Weston and Walker. Salve had a 19-14 edge on the glass and scored 16 points in the paint. Fiore had nine and Walmsley scored eight to lead the Seahawks in the first 20 minutes.

Dean hung on to the lead until a Powers layup with 9:27 left to play gave Salve Regina a 61-59 lead. The Seahawks went on a 10-3 run in the next six minutes to build a 71-62 advantage with less than three minutes to play. Salve Regina converted several free throws down the stretch to secure the 81-69 road victory.  

Salve Regina finished the game with 46.9% shooting, while Dean made 48.1% from the floor. Each team made five long balls but shot less than 30%.
