Bulldogs Earn Scoreless Draw with Johnson & Wales

FRANKLIN, Mass. – October 11, 2023 – The Dean College men's soccer team earned a crucial point with a scoreless draw against Johnson & Wales (JWU) on Wednesday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at the Longley Athletic Complex.

The Bulldogs (8-2-2, 6-2-2 GNAC), who remain in fourth place in the conference with 20 points, play at Regis on Saturday at 1 p.m. JWU, which is ranked eighth in Region 1 in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll, goes to 9-2-2 overall and 8-1-1 in the conference. The Wildcats, who sit atop the GNAC standings with 25 points, travel to Mitchell on Saturday for an 11 a.m. start.

The first half was well played by both sides but neither team found the back of the net. Dean had a 5-3 edge in shots (2-0 on target), while JWU held a 2-1 margin in corner kicks.

Each team took eight total shots and four on target in a high-paced second half.

The Bulldogs had a couple of chances, 15 minutes into the final frame, with shots on target by senior Luke Palmer (Windsor Locks, Conn.) and sophomore Melvin Alves (Brockton, Mass.). JWU keeper Jacob Friedman (Woodland Hills, Calif.) kept Dean off the board with a pair of nice saves.

With six minutes to go, JWU sophomore Carlos Andrade (Cranston, R.I.) had two dangerous chances of his own in close but senior Alberto Gonzalez Del Rio (Madrid, Spain) was up to the task to preserve the scoreless tie.

Gonzalez Del Rio finished with four saves for Dean, while Friedman had six stops for the Wildcats.
