WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – October 10, 2023 – The Dean College field hockey team was defeated at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) 3-0 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Tuesday afternoon.
Dean (2-12, 1-8 GNAC) has a quick turnaround with a 3 p.m. home game against Salve Regina tomorrow afternoon at Grant Field. USJ (3-9, 3-5 GNAC) will host Rivier on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Bulldogs had a 3-1 advantage in shots in the first quarter, but neither team found the back of the cage.
In the second quarter, the Blue Jays tilted the field towards their offensive end resulting in a 4-0 margin in shots. Nearly five minutes into the frame, Aurelia Barker scored the game's first goal, her fourth tally of the season, for the 1-0 USJ lead at the half.
The home team added a second goal in the waning seconds of the third quarter when Maya Tomko finished a pass from Devan Fox for the 2-0 lead.
The Blue Jays tacked on one more goal in the final quarter on a Fox score with 3:15 left in the game.

Mackenzie Fillion (New Bedford, Mass.) had three saves in the loss for Dean, while Wendy Bowden made a couple of stops to earn the win for the Blue Jays. Dean junior
Madison Gilbert (Sanbornton, N.H.) recorded her team best fourth defensive save of the season.
First-year
Emily Kilpatrick (Marion, Mass.) led the Bulldogs with a pair of shots on target.
