CHICOPEE, Mass. – January 7, 2023 – The Dean College women's basketball team was topped by Elms, 79-39, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) road game Saturday.
Dean (0-10, 0-6 GNAC) will welcome non-conference opponent Wellelsey on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Elms (5-7, 1-5 GNAC) hosts Colby-Sawyer on Wednesday.
First-year
Natasha Brito (Fitchburg, Mass.) poured in a career-high 11 points to lead Dean. Senior
Allie Bezio (Wellfleet, Mass.) made 3-of-3 from the floor and 2-of-2 from the free throw line to finish with eight points to go with seven rebounds.
Rahmia Johnston led five Blazers in double figures with 14 points. Kayla Jackson was next with 13 points and nine rebounds. Brianna Metellus contributed 11 points and eight rebounds.
1st Quarter:
- Bezio made both of her shot attempts to account for the Bulldogs' 4 points.
- Elms outscored Dean 21-4.
- Johnston scored 8 to lead the Blazers.
2nd Quarter:
- Dean shot 50% (3-6) from the floor, Elms was 7-of-21 (33.3%).
- Brito 4 points, Tori Viau + Carly Rettberg 3 points apiece.
- Elms outscored Dean 22-10.
3rd Quarter
- Elms outscored the Bulldogs 23-14.
- Dean shot it well again (46.2%). Elms made 4-of-8 from beyond the arc.
- Bezio and Amani Pressley 4 points apiece.
- Kayla Jackson 7 points for Elms.
4th Quarter
- Both teams shot less than 30%.
- Dean was edged 13-11 on the scoreboard.
- Brito led all players with 5 points.
Elms made 10-of-24 shots from beyond the arc and scored 25 points off turnovers in the victory.
