Bulldogs Fall to Wellesley

FRANKLIN, Mass. – January 10, 2023 – The Dean College women's basketball team dropped a non-conference game to Wellesley, 57-14, Tuesday evening inside Pieri Gymnasium.  

Dean (0-11) returns to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. start at Regis. Wellelsey (6-8) begins New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday with a 1 p.m. tip at Coast Guard.

Sophomore Tori Viau (Johnston, R.I.) and first-year Carly Rettberg (Haddam, Conn.) each had three points for Dean. Sophomore Maranda Cournoyer (Millville, Mass.) pulled down a team best seven rebounds.

Wellesley was led by junior Jiyun Chae's (Chantilly, Va.) 13 points. Senior Taylor Hirn (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) grabbed a game best 12 rebounds. Junior Anna Greenthal (Orinda, Calif.) finished with 10 points and seven steals.

1st Quarter
  • Chae led all scorers with seven points.
  • Wellesley led 14-0 after 10 minutes.
  • Dean outrebounded Wellesley 16-11.
2nd Quarter
  • Yitzel Serna scored five points for The Blue.
  • Cournoyer and Rettberg had buckets for the Bulldogs.
  • Wellesley shot 31.6% (6-19), while Dean shot 12.5% (2-16).
3rd Quarter
  • The Blue held an 18-4 margin on the scoreboard.
  • Wellesley made eight baskets, while Dean went 2-for-8.
  • Chae added six points to her total.
4th Quarter
  • Wellesley had a 10-6 edge in scoring.
  • Viau had three points for Dean.
  • Each team made two field goals.
  • Wellesley was 6-of-8 from the free throw line.
