Women's Basketball Drops Home Game to Colby-Sawyer

FRANKLIN, Mass. – January 19, 2023 – The Dean College women's basketball team was defeated by Colby-Sawyer, 56-29, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest Thursday evening.

Dean (0-14, 0-9 GNAC) hits the road Saturday for a 1 p.m. game at Albertus Magnus. Colby-Sawyer (5-10, 3-5 GNAC) returns home on Saturday to host Lasell at 1 p.m.

First-year Carly Rettberg (Haddam, Conn.) poured in a season-high 13 points to lead Dean. Sophomore Amani Pressley (Long Island, N.Y.) grabbed a game best eight rebounds. Sophomore Maranda Cournoyer (Millville, Mass.) tallied four points, six rebounds and a couple of blocks.

Colby-Sawyer had a pair of players in double figures. Sophomore Megan Molettieri (Pelham, N.H.) posted a game-high 14 points, while first-year Elyza Mitchell (Spofford, N.H.) scored 12 on 6-of-9 shooting.
 
1st Quarter
  • The Chargers made 9-of-20 from the floor and 5-of-11 from beyond the arc to lead 23-6 after 10 minutes.
  • Dean was held without a made field goal and scored all six points from the free throw line.
2nd Quarter
  • The teams traded the first four buckets of the second.
  • Colby-Sawyer finished the half on a 7-0 run.
  • Rettberg had all six of Dean's points.
  • The Chargers led 36-12 at the half.
3rd Quarter
  • The third went scoreless for the first four minutes before Dean got a couple of free throws from first-year Caitlin Cooper (Amherst, N.H.) and a jumper from Pressley.
  • Colby-Sawyer held a 12-8 edge on the scoreboard.
  • Dean went 4-of-7 from the free throw line.
4th Quarter
  • Dean outscored Colby-Sawyer 9-8 in the final frame.
  • The Bulldogs shot 4-of-16, while Colby-Sawyer was held to 3-of-12.
  • Tori Viau (Johnston, R.I.) had four points for Dean.
