USJ Earns Road Win over Women's Basketball

FRANKLIN, Mass. – January 17, 2023 – The Dean College women's basketball team fell to the University of Saint Joseph (USJ), 68-29, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action inside Pieri Gymnasium Tuesday evening.  

Dean (0-13, 0-8 GNAC) hosts Colby-Sawyer on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. USJ (10-6, 6-3 GNAC) returns home to host Regis at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Sophomore Tori Viau (Johnston, R.I.) led the Bulldogs in scoring with 11 points. Sophomore Cat Thomas (Woodbridge, Conn.) finished with six points and four rebounds. Sophomore Maranda Cournoyer (Millville, Mass.) registered five points and a team best six rebounds.

USJ was led by junior Jordan Ouellette (Bristol, Conn.). She made all seven of her field goal attempts to finish with 14 points. Sophomore Janai Oliver (Hartford, Conn.) tallied 12 points and eight rebounds. Junior Khalise Harris (South Windsor, Conn.) added 10 points off the bench.

1st Quarter
  • The visitors outscored Dean 21-4 in the opening frame.
  • Oliver and Ouellette each scored six points for the Blue Jays.
  • Cournoyer and Viau had buckets for the Bulldogs.
2nd Quarter
  • Dean's Caitlin Cooper (Amherst, N.H.) scored the opening bucket of the second quarter.
  • USJ had a 22-8 margin in scoring.
  • The Bulldogs made 4-of-6 from the free throw line.
  • Oliver and Ouellette combined for 14 points for USJ.
3rd Quarter
  • Dean shot 4-of-9 from the floor, 2-of-2 from beyond the arc and 2-of-2 from the free throw line.
  • USJ was 8-of-14 from the field to edge Dean 16-12 in scoring to lead 59-24 after 30 minutes.
  • Viau had six points for the Bulldogs.  
4th Quarter
  • Thomas put in the first basket of the fourth for Dean.
  • Low scoring fourth saw USJ with a 9-5 advantage in points.
  • Dean shot 2-of-11, while the Blue Jays were 4-of-11.
