FRANKLIN, Mass. – September 3, 2022 – The Dean College women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with Massachusetts Maritime on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Grant Field.
Dean (0-1-1) will hit the road for the first time on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. match at Rhode Island College. Mass. Maritime (0-0-1) hosts UMaine Presque Isle on Monday at noon.
The Bulldogs struck first when senior
Jazzy Sztyler-Magee (Burlington, Conn.) found a loose ball in front of the net and buried it in the upper corner, giving Dean a 1-0 lead in the 9th minute.
Mass. Maritime responded with the equalizer in the 44th minute off the foot of Julia Podchaiski (Wallingford, Conn.). The senior collected a cross from sophomore Taylor Blanton (Auburn, Mass.) and beat a Bulldog defender before sneaking a shot past Dean goalkeeper
Haley Gaunt (Johnston, R.I.).
The second half featured back and forth action with neither squad able to break through the stalemate. Styler-Magee led Dean with two shots, both on goal, while
Allie Bezio (Wellfleet, Mass.) and
Lila Maiato (Coventry, R.I.) both added second-half shots.
The Buccaneers held a 12-4 edge in first half shots, while Dean led 7-2 in corner kicks. The Buccaneers finished with a 19-5 advantage in total shots while Dean held the advantage in corner kicks (12-6).
Gaunt finished with eight saves. Freshman Brady Deschamps (Brewster, Mass.) allowed one goal and made one save for the Buccaneers.
