Women's Soccer Falls To JWU

FRANKLIN, Mass. - September 28, 2022 - The Dean College Bulldogs fell to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) leading foe Johnson & Wales 5-0 at Longley Field on Wednesday.

Johnson & Wales (8-2-1, 5-0 GNAC) struck early when, in the third minute, McKenna Renaud took a cross at the top of the box, flipped to her left foot and lobbed a shot over Dean Goalkeeper Lexi Gerow (Pownal, Vt.).

The Wildcats found the back of the net again in the 29th minute when Madison Sanborn corralled a cross from Chloe Henriksen and whistled a low left-footed shot into the bottom corner.

Johnson & Wales led 2-0 at the half, outshooting the Bulldogs 17-0 and leading 4-1 in corner kicks. Gerow led Dean with eight first half saves.

Early in the second half, the Bulldogs threatened when Jazzy Sztyler-Magee (Burlington, Conn,) fought off three defenders on a long run and hoisted a shot towards the goal that was turned away by Wildcat keeper Carly McCrumb.

Renaud extended the visitors advantage to 3-0 in the 65th minute after she controlled a loose ball at the top of the box and sailed a shot into the upper corner.

Minutes later, the Wildcats extended their lead to four on a goal from Hayley Viebrock, assisted by Trina Capezza. JWU added an insurance goal in the 87th minute off the foot of Juliana Abramovich.

The Wildcats finished with a 34-2 edge in shots and an 11-2 lead in corner kicks. Gerow made 15 saves in the full 90 minutes of action.

Up next for the Bulldogs (1-5-2, 0-4-1 GNAC) is a road contest on Saturday at Anna Maria at 10 am.
