Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Regis Escapes with 2-1 Win over Men's Soccer

FRANKLIN, Mass. – September 21, 2022 - The Dean College men's soccer team dropped its first home game of the season with a 2-1 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) loss to Regis College.

Dean (3-2-1, 1-1-1 GNAC) plays a GNAC road match on Saturday at Rivier at 1:30 p.m. Regis (4-3, 1-2 GNAC) returns home to host Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.

After a scoreless first half, Regis found the back of the net twice in the first six minutes of the second frame. In the 49th minute, junior Jeremiah Frias (San Diego, Calif.) collected a failed clear and ripped a shot that ricocheted off the left post and into the goal.

Two minutes later, Regis doubled its lead with a goal by sophomore Damien Booker (Boston, Mass.). Senior Nick Cardenas (Hudson, N.H.) drove towards the end line and sent a low cross in front of the goal mouth past everyone and to the waiting Booker who deposited his first goal of the season into the back of the net.

The Pride looked to go in front by three scores in the 62nd minute when they were awarded a penalty kick. Zack Acciardo (Derry, N.H.) stepped to the spot and fired a shot towards the right side of the goal, but Dean keeper Alberto Gonzalez Del Rio (Madrid, Spain) was up to the task and made the save to keep the deficit 2-0.

The Bulldogs cut the lead in half in the 84th minute on first-year Melvin Alves' (Brockton, Mass.) team leading third goal of the season. Senior Luke Palmer (Windsor Locks, Conn.) set up the play with a 20-yard through ball.

Gonzalez Del Rio allowed two goals and made four saves for the Bulldogs. Regis goalie Freddie Beckmann (Franklin, Mass.) had five saves in the win.

The Bulldogs had a 13-9 edge in shots with each team taking six on target. Dean also had a 5-3 margin in corner kicks.
