FRANKLIN, Mass. – September 14, 2022 – The Dean College women's soccer team defeated Mitchell 1-0 to earn their first win of the season on Wednesday afternoon at Lippert Field.

Dean (1-2-1) will resume Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at home on Sunday with an 11 a.m. match against Rivier. Mitchell (0-3-1), who will be joining the GNAC next season, travels to Brooklyn College on Saturday for a 1 p.m. kickoff.

Dean senior Jazzy Sztyler-Magee (Burlington, Conn.) broke a scoreless tie with 1:39 left to play in the first half to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead after 45 minutes. The goal, which was Sztyler-Magee's second of the season, came when she won the ball from a defender and scored into the upper left corner of the net.

Dean held a 9-8 edge in first-half shots with a 6-2 advantage in shots on target.

Neither team found the back of the net in the second despite 20 total shots.

Dean sophomore goalkeeper Haley Gaunt (Johnston, R.I.) worked a clean first half with two saves to be credited with the victory. First-year Lexi Gerow (Pownal, Vt.) made her collegiate debut in the second half and made three saves to combine for the clean sheet. Mitchell sophomore goalie Gemma Landry (Lewiston, Maine) stopped 10 shots in the loss.

Dean finished with a 24-13 margin in shots, while each team had four corner kicks.
