FRANKLIN, Mass. – April 9, 2022 – The Dean College men's lacrosse team endured a more than three hour lightning delay, wind, rain and hail to come away with a 17-1 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) over Regis on Saturday afternoon.
Dean improves to 8-2 overall and 5-2 in the GNAC. The Bulldogs will step out of GNAC play on Thursday to travel to Thomas for a 6 p.m. game with the Terriers. Regis drops to 2-9 overall and 0-6 in conference play. The Pride will return home to host Anna Maria on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
Dean sophomore
Diego Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) had a team best six points on two goals and four assists. Sophomore
Alec Speirs (Old Lyme, Conn.) led the Bulldogs with four goals to go with an assist. The Bulldogs won all 22 faceoffs this afternoon. Sophomore
Tyler Benedetto (Jupiter, Fla.) was a perfect 19-for-19 with 13 ground balls, while freshman
Jason Richard (Holden, Mass.) won all three of his faceoff attempts.
First-year Brendan Cook (Billerica, Mass.) was responsible for the lone Regis goal. Junior Jack Crater (Welcome, N.C.) had a team best three ground balls to go with one caused turnover.

Alexander Govoni (Lakeville, Mass.) earned the win with three saves and one goal allowed in 35:27 of action. Junior

Andrew McKenna (North Palm Beach, Fla.) and freshman
Jake Sock (Warwick, R.I.) all saw action in the second half. Regis goalie Nick Penta (Cotuit, Mass.) made a career-high 27 saves.
After more than 10 minutes of scoreless action to begin the game, Dean junior
Christopher Wendt (Boonton, N.J.) put home the first goal of the contest. Freshman
Ryan Clunie (North Andover, Mass.) added a goal with less than a minute to go for a 2-0 Dean lead.
The Bulldogs pushed their lead to 3-0, 3:28 into the third, on a tally by sophomore
Grayson Colvin (Bernardsville, N.J.). Less than two minutes later, the game was halted for a lightning delay that lasted a little more than three hours.
Upon resumption of action, Cook got Regis on the board with a man-up goal to make the score 3-1. The Bulldogs scored twice more before the end of the second to lead 5-1 after two quarters.
The teams took an abbreviated halftime break and then Dean took control. The Bulldogs scored four times in the first four minutes of the third and went on to score 11 times to lead 16-1 at the end of three.
Colvin added a goal for Dean late in the fourth to account for the 17-1 final.
