Men's Lacrosse Outlasted by Rivier in Regular Season Finale, 9-8

NASHUA, N.H. - April 27, 2022 - The Dean College men's lacrosse team dropped its regular season finale at Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Rivier, 9-8, Wednesday evening.

Dean finishes the regular season slate with a 10-4 overall record and a 6-4 mark in the conference, which is good for the fourth seed in the upcoming GNAC Tournament. Rivier improved to 13-3 overall and 8-2 in the GNAC to lock up the third seed.

Sophomore Diego Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) led the Dean offense with four goals. Sophomore Alec Speirs (Old Lyme, Conn.) finished with three assists. Sophomore Tyler Benedetto (Jupiter, Fla.) won 17-of-21 faceoffs to go with eight ground balls.

Rivier's Michael Ference (Salem, N.H.) finished with a game-high four goals and one assist.

Sawyer Gagnon (Gorham, Maine) made seven saves in the win, while Dean senior Alexander Govoni Lakeville, Mass.) had nine stops in the loss.

After Rivier opened the game with two goals, Alvarez-Segee answered with two of his own to send the game into the second quarter tied at 2-2.

The teams traded the first four goals of the second frame to keep the score knotted at 4-4, but Ference gave the Raiders a 5-4 lead with a goal at 3:28.

Rivier added to its lead, 3:13 into the third, but Dean battled back with goals by sophomore Grayson Colvin (Bernardsville, N.J.) and Alvarez-Segee in a two-minute span. The Raiders had an answer as they would score twice to close out the quarter with another two-goal advantage at 8-6.

The first 11+ minutes of the fourth saw neither team score. Dean then found the back of the net with 3:22 remaining on Alvarez-Segee's fourth tally of the game. Junior Christopher Wendt (Boonton, N.J.) brought the Bulldogs all the way back once again to tie the game at 8-8 with 2:41 left in regulation.

Rivier's Parker Williams (Limington, Maine) took the ensuing faceoff down the field and scored the eventual game-winner with 2:30 showing on the clock.
