Baseball Swept by Anna Maria

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – April 24, 2022 – The Dean College baseball team fell 10-4 and 5-1 to Anna Maria in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader on Sunday.

Dean (7-24, 5-10 GNAC) returns home on Wednesday to host non-conference opponent Curry. Anna Maria improves to 21-14 overall and 11-5 in the GNAC.

GAME ONE – Anna Maria 10, Dean 4

After Anna Maria plated a pair of runs in the first, Dean responded with three runs in the second. Senior Dan Lilja (Lynn, Mass.) knocked in a run with a single and freshman Cam Watkins (East Haddam, Conn.) hit a two-run double to the gap.

The AMCATs retook the lead with two runs in the fourth, but the Bulldogs were able to tie the game with a Tommy Troy Jr. (Norwalk, Conn.) bases loaded walk in the fifth.

Anna Maria went on top 7-4 in the bottom half of the fifth and then added three more in the bottom of the sixth to secure a 10-4 victory.

Troy Jr. finished 1-for-2 with two walks and two stolen bases.

Brian Dovidio (Ramsey, N.J.), Ryan Gallagher (Methuen, Mass.) and Brayden McLaughlin (Forest Grove, Ore.) had two hits apiece.

GAME TWO – Anna Maria 5, Dean 1

Anna Maria struck for a pair once again in the first inning.

The game remained 2-0 until the top of the sixth when McLaughlin hit an infield single that scored Matty Troy (Norwalk, Conn.).

The AMCATS added three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run double and a sac fly en route to the 5-1 win.
