FRANKLIN, Mass. – April 23, 2022 – The Dean College baseball team was swept by Saint Joseph's College in Saturday's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader. The Monks won game one 16-3 and game two 7-0.
Dean (7-22, 5-8 GNAC) hits the road tomorrow for a GNAC doubleheader at Anna Maria beginning at noon. Saint Joseph's (22-11, 13-1 GNAC) returns home on Sunday to host Rivier for a twin bill at noon.
GAME ONE – Saint Joseph's 16, Dean 3
The Monks put eight on the board in their first at-bat and never looked back. Sophomore Dawson Gundlah (York, Maine) and senior Ronan Chisholm (North Chatham, Mass.) each had a two-run hit in the frame.
Dean scored a run in the bottom of the first on a
Brian Dovidio (Ramsey, N.J.) single to left.
The Bulldogs added another in the second on a
Matty Troy (Norwalk, Conn.) bunt single.
Saint Joseph's would score once in the fourth, four in the fifth and three in the sixth to take a 16-2 lead. Drew Healey (Rochester, N.H.) had a bases clearing double in the fifth to give the Monks breathing room.
In the bottom of the sixth,
Kyle Lancaster (Dartmouth, Mass.) brought in senior
Dan Lilja (Lynn, Mass.) with a single to center, but the Monks secured the 16-3 victory.
Troy went 2-for-4 to lead the Dean batters.
Junior Samuel Jalbert (Mascouche, Que.) earned the win for Saint Joseph's with five innings of work. He gave up two runs on five hits and struck out eight.
Healey finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run for the Monks.
GAME TWO – Saint Joseph's 7, Dean 0
The Monks received a strong starting performance from freshman Jason Johnson (Thomaston, Conn.). He earned the win with five innings of one-hit ball and six strikeouts. Devan Harrison (Pocasset, Mass.) closed the game with two perfect innings.
The Monks struck early again with four runs in the first. The big blow came off the bat of Ben Gravel (Rochester, N.H.) who belted a two-run homer.
Saint Joseph's added a run in the second on a Chisholm fielder's choice and then two more in the fifth on a wild pitch and a Gravel RBI single for the 7-0 final score.
Senior
Eric Lucey (Winchester, Mass.) threw two innings of scoreless relief for the Bulldogs.
Gravel went 2-for-3 with three RBIs to lead the Monks.
