WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – April 20, 2022 - The Dean College men's lacrosse team had its three-game win streak snapped as the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) won a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) defensive battle, 7-6.
Dean goes to 10-3 overall and 6-3 in the GNAC. The Bulldogs will look to rebound in the regular season finale next Wednesday at Rivier. USJ improves to 6-8 overall and 3-5 in the conference. The Blue Jays host Saint Joseph's (Maine) on Saturday.
The Bulldogs received a goal from six different players in the game. Sophomore midfielder
Alec Speirs (Old Lyme, Conn.) had three assists. Sophomore
Diego Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) finished with a goal, three caused turnovers and seven ground balls.
Freshman Evan Zimnoch (Southington, Conn.) and sophomore Ryan Paltauf (Southbury, Conn.) had two goals apiece for USJ.
Dean held a 2-1 lead after 15 minutes, but USJ scored twice in the second quarter to lead 3-2 at the half.
The home team increased its lead with a 2-1 advantage in the third quarter to 5-3 after 45 minutes.
The fourth quarter was chaotic as the Bulldogs turned up the pressure. Dean scored three-straight (
Greg Centeio,
Jason Richard,
Matthew Pacheco) goals in the opening two minutes of the frame to take a 6-5 lead. USJ responded with a pair of goals in the next two minutes to retake the lead, 7-6, which would be the final score.
The Bulldogs made one last push in the final seconds, but one shot hit the crossbar and another was saved to preserve the win for USJ.

Alexander Govoni (Lakeville, Mass.) allowed seven goals and made 10 saves. Trey McCann (Simsbury, Conn.) made 17 saves and allowed six goals to earn the win for the Blue Jays.
