FRANKLIN, Mass. – April 20, 2022 – The Dean College baseball team dropped a non-conference game to Trinity, 12-7, at the Longley Athletic Complex Wednesday afternoon.
Dean falls to 7-20 and will resume Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at home on Saturday with a 12 p.m. doubleheader against Johnson & Wales. Trinity evens its record to 12-12 and will travel to Tufts on Friday for a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) game at 3 p.m.
Trinity wasted no time putting runs on the board in the first with a two-run blast by sophomore James Stefanowicz (Stamford, Conn.).
The Bantams added two more in the top of the second before Dean rallied with four in the bottom half to tie the game. Senior
Thomas Muizulis Jr. (Waltham, Mass.) had a two-run triple for the Bulldogs.
Dean took a 5-4 lead in the sixth on a sac fly from sophomore
Kyle Lancaster (Dartmouth, Mass.).
Trinity responded with three runs in the seventh on a passed ball and a two-run homer by sophomore Sean Meth (Sands Point, N.Y.).
The home team got a run back in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI double by senior
Ryan Gallagher (Methuen, Mass.) to make the score 7-6.
The Bantams pulled away in the eighth with five runs on three hits and an error.
Josh Cerretani (Peabody, Mass.) knocked in a run for Dean in the bottom half of the eighth, but Trinity held on for the 12-7 win.
Sophomore Sam Craven (Wakefield, R.I.) was credited with the win after 1.2 innings with one run on two hits. Sophomore Tyler Griffin (Milford, Conn.) also turned in a solid relief appearance for the Bantams with four innings, one unearned run on three hits and five strikeouts.
Dean sophomore
Kyle Simpson (Prospect, Conn.) threw two hitless innings of relief for the Bulldogs.
Meth finished 3-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs to lead Trinity at the plate.
Muizulis went 3-for-4 with a single, double, triple and two RBIs.
Each team had 10 hits on the day.
