Bulldogs Use Balanced Attack to Defeat Anna Maria, 14-8

FRANKLIN, Mass. – April 2, 2022 – The Dean College men's lacrosse team pulled away late in the fourth to secure a 14-8 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory over Anna Maria.

Dean has won three in a row to improve to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the GNAC. The Bulldogs will hit the road Wednesday for a big GNAC game at Norwich at 4 p.m. Anna Maria dips to 4-5 overall and 2-1 in conference action. The AMCATS host Rivier on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Dean sophomore Diego Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) led the Bulldogs with six points on four goals and two assists. Sophomore Alec Speirs (Old Lyme, Conn.) added two goals and two assists, while sophomore Chris Rivera (Glastonbury, Conn.) chipped in with two goals and an assist. Sophomore Tyler Benedetto (Jupiter, Fla.) won 18-of-24 faceoffs, including several in a row late in the fourth quarter. He picked up a game best 12 ground balls.

Senior Quinn Hannagan (South Windsor, Conn.) was the lone AMCAT with two goals. He added a team best five caused turnovers. Senior Nick Massaro (West Haven, Conn.) led the team with four points on one goal and three assists.

Dean senior Alexander Govoni (Lakeville, Mass.) had 13 saves in the win. Graduate student Griffin Moore (Worcester, Mass.) made 11 stops for Anna Maria.

The teams traded the first two goals of the game before Dean rattled off four in a row, each from a different player, to take a 5-1 lead. Eric Glover (Baldwinville, Mass.) then scored a man-up goal for the AMCATS to make the score 5-2 heading into the second.

The Bulldogs found the back of the net twice in the first five minutes of the second to take a 7-2 advantage. Anna Maria scored with less than a minute left to pull within 7-3 at the half.

Each team scored three times in the third quarter for a 10-6 score after 45 minutes.

The visitors cut the deficit to three early in the fourth, but Dean scored four times in a 2:12 span to take control of the game, 14-7. The AMCATS scored with 4:13 on the clock but it was too late as Dean secured the 14-8 victory.
