FRANKLIN, Mass. – April 16, 2022 - The Dean College women's lacrosse team was edged by Emmanuel, 17-11, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest Saturday morning at Grant Field.
Dean goes to 3-9 overall and 3-7 in the GNAC. The Bulldogs will play at Regis on Tuesday. Emmanuel improves to 8-5 overall and 8-3 in the conference. The Saints will step out of GNAC action on Wednesday to play a road game at Tufts.
First-year
Nina Medeiros (Fairhaven, Mass.) and junior
Jazzy Sztyler-Magee (Burlington, Conn.) led the Bulldogs with four goals apiece. Both players also picked up five ground balls. Junior
Maire Brown (Huntington, N.Y.) added a hat trick and a game best 11 draw controls.
Emmanuel received a game-high nine points on seven goals and two assists from senior Chandra Franca (Woburn, Mass.). Senior Jessica Borduas (Woodbury, Conn.) scored five times.
Dean senior
Jordyn McKenney (Nashua, N.H.) played the first quarter in net and gave up four goals with three saves. Junior goalie
Jada Fields (Acushnet, Mass.) allowed 13 goals and made seven saves in the final three quarters. Emmanuel senior goalie Emma Crowley (Peterborough, N.H.) earned the win with 11 goals allowed and 14 saves.
The teams traded the first two goals of the game before Emmanuel took a 4-2 lead into the second quarter.
In a high-scoring second frame, the Saints put seven goals on the board, while Dean found the back of the net four times. Brown had two goals for Dean, while Franca put in three for the Saints.
Borduas scored a pair in the third for Emmanuel, sandwiched around a pair by Sztyler-Magee, to send the Bulldogs into the fourth trailing 13-8.
Medeiros pulled Dean within four, 13-9, with a goal 1:12 into the final frame, but Megan Steele (Auburn, Maine) answered for the Saints. Medeiros got another goal back a minute later, but Emmanuel responded once again with a pair of goals by Franca to put the game out of reach. Each team would score once more down the stretch as Emmanuel held on for the 17-11 win.
