Men's Lacrosse Celebrates Senior Day with 13-4 Win over Emmanuel

FRANKLIN, Mass. – April 16, 2022 – The Dean College men's lacrosse team cruised to a 13-4 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory on senior day, Saturday afternoon at Grant Field.

Prior to the start, Dean honored seniors Andrew McKenna (North Palm Beach, Fla.), Griffin McDonald (Holden, Mass.), Kobe Welch-Porter (Leander, Texas), Alexander Govoni (Lakeville, Mass.), Cameron Barnes (Haverhill, Mass.) and Matt Dowd (West Haven, Conn.) for their years of dedication to Dean College and the men's lacrosse program. The team also announced a donation to the Franklin Food Pantry in President Rooney's name for all that she has done for the College in her 27 years of service.

Dean has won three straight to improve to 10-2 overall and 6-2 in the GNAC. The Bulldogs will hit the road on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. game at the University of Saint Joseph. Emmanuel falls to 3-9 overall and 2-5 in the conference. The Saints travel to Regis on Wednesday.

Sophomore Diego Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) paced the Bulldogs with six points on four goals and two assists. Sophomore Alec Speirs (Old Lyme, Conn.) added four goals and an assist. Sophomore Tyler Benedetto (Jupiter, Fla.) won 20-of-21 faceoffs, picked up 14 ground balls and scored once.

Emmanuel received a goal from four players including junior Derek DelVecchio (Saugus, Mass.). He added four ground balls and a couple of caused turnovers.

Govoni earned the win in 57 minutes of action with 10 saves and four goals allowed. McKenna came in to close the door in the final three minutes. Emmanuel goalie Eric Anderson (Sparta, N.J.) allowed eight goals with eight saves in the first half, while Randy Castle (Boxford, Mass.) played the second half with six saves and five goals allowed.

Benedetto took the opening faceoff and scored seven seconds into the contest to put the Bulldogs on top early. Dean scored the next two before Drew Chant (Warwick, R.I.) got Emmanuel on the scoreboard. The Bulldogs responded with a pair to close out the first quarter with a 5-1 advantage.

In the second, Dean built on its lead by outscoring the Saints 3-1. Greg Centeio (Fairhaven, Mass.) scored one of his two goals in the quarter to help the home team to an 8-2 lead at the half.

Each team found the back of the net in the third with goals by Matthew Pacheco (Warwick, R.I.) of Dean and Robert Favuzza (Saugus, Mass.) of Emmanuel.

Dean scored four-straight in the fourth, including three from Speirs, to put the game out of reach. Emmanuel got a late goal, but the Bulldogs earned the 13-4 victory.
