WALTHAM, Mass. - April 11, 2022 - The Dean College baseball team split its third-straight Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader on Monday afternoon. Lasell won game one 8-4, while the Bulldogs took game two 6-4.
Dean (7-16, 5-4 GNAC) steps out of conference to play at Bates on Wednesday. Lasell (10-13, 7-3 GNAC) hosts non-conference foe Framingham State tomorrow.
GAME ONE - Lasell 8, Dean 4
The Bulldogs scored three times in their first at-bat on RBI singles from senior
Ryan Gallagher (Methuen, Mass.), freshman
Ryan Desmond (Long Island, N.Y.) and senior
Dan Lilja (Lynn, Mass.).
Lasell then used the long ball to get back in the game and eventually take the lead for the 8-4 win. The Lasers scored seven of their eight runs on four homers.
Desmond, Lilja and
Matty Troy (Norwalk, Conn.) finished with two hits apiece to lead the Bulldogs. Senior
Eric Lucey (Winchester, Mass.) tossed a perfect inning of relief.
GAME TWO - Dean 6, Lasell 4
The Bulldogs turned the tables in the second game as the team brought in five runs on two homers.
After Lasell scored a run in the first, a
Thomas Muizulis Jr. (Waltham, Mass.) RBI single tied the game at 1-1.
Then in the third, Dean freshman
Cam Watkins (East Haddam, Conn.) belted a three-run homer over the left field wall with his second round-tripper of the season.
The Lasers cut the deficit in half with a run in the fourth, but the Bulldogs took a 6-2 lead in the top of the fifth. Senior
Josh Cerretani (Peabody, Mass.) hit his team leading third home run over the left field wall that brought in
Tommy Troy Jr. (Norwalk, Conn.).
Lasell made things interesting in the bottom of the fifth plating two runs on a wild pitch and an error, but that would be the end of the scoring as Dean held on for the 6-4 win.
Senior
Greg Palais (Valhalla, N.Y.) picked up a save with a scoreless seventh inning and two strikeouts.
