Bulldogs Topped by No. 15 Lasell, 3-0

FRANKLIN, Mass. – March 8, 2022 – The Dean College men's volleyball team was swept by No. 15 Lasell University, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Tuesday evening inside Pieri Gymnasium. The Lasers won by scores of 25-9, 25-17 and 25-20.

Dean (1-9, 0-2 GNAC) hosts a GNAC tri-match on Saturday with Regis and Colby-Sawyer. Lasell (12-6, 6-1) hosts MIT on Friday at 7 p.m.

The Lasers hit .348 for the match and were led by a 10-kill performance from junior Riley Grenier (Wethersfield, Conn.). He hit .421 and added a match best 13 digs. Graduate student Dillon DeSouza (Enfield, Conn.) recorded seven kills on eight attempts to hit .875. Freshman setter Zak Burkett (Kahului, Hawaii) finished with 27 assists, nine digs and four kills.

Dean was led by freshman Rodrigo Monteiro (Praia, Cape Verde) with five kills. Junior setter Tyler Martins (East Providence, R.I.) contributed six assists, three aces and a couple of kills.

Lasell rolled to a 25-9 first set victory behind 11 kills and four aces. The Lasers had four players record at least two kills in the frame.

The Bulldogs got out to a 6-3 lead in the second, but Lasell battled back and finished the set on a 6-2 run to win 25-17. Lasell tallied 10 kills, while Monteiro had a couple to lead the Dean attackers.

Dean pushed the 15th-ranked Lasers to the brink in the third set, but ultimately was edged 25-20. Lasell hit .417 but couldn't put the Bulldogs away until late as the home team fought until the final point.
