Men's Volleyball Hosts GNAC Tri-Match

FRANKLIN, Mass. – March 12, 2022 – The Dean College men's volleyball team hosted a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tri-match on Saturday. Regis defeated Dean 3-0 (25-8, 25-21, 25-12) and Colby-Sawyer 3-1 (25-17, 25-19, 25-27, 25-7). Colby-Sawyer earned a 3-0 (25-16, 25-10, 26-24) win over Dean.  

Dean is now 1-11 overall and 0-4 in the GNAC. Regis improves to 8-10 overall and 3-4 in the conference, while Colby-Sawyer goes to 4-11 overall and 1-6 in the GNAC.

Regis 3, Dean 0 – 25-8, 25-21, 25-12

Regis hit .321 as a team in the match, including an impressive .621 in the first set, to earn the 3-0 victory.

Freshman Rodrigo Monteiro (Praia, Cape Verde) led the Bulldogs with four kills. Junior setter Tyler Martins (East Providence, R.I.) compiled eight assists and a match best 11 digs.  

Sophomore Joseph Perez (Miami, Fla.) paced the Regis attack with eight kills on .375 hitting. First-year Tyrell Bucasas (Waialua, Hawaii) finished with 14 assists and a couple of aces.

Regis 3, Colby-Sawyer 1 – 25-17, 25-19, 25-27 ,25-7

The Pride once again were efficient on the attack to finish the match with 51 kills on .388 hitting.  

Senior Matt Ferrara (Sandown, N.H.) led Regis with 13 kills, while Perez added another 12 kills on .360 hitting to go with five aces. Senior Kostea Andreenko (Marstons Mills, Mass.) was the third Regis player in double figures with 11 kills on .692 hitting. Junior libero Marcello Cappuccio (Scotch Plains, N.J.) dug up a match best 15 balls.

Colby-Sawyer received nine kills from senior Orlando Plagata (Los Angeles, Calif.), while senior Eric Miller (La Grange, Ill.) added eight kills. Freshman setter Lucas Lizotte (Hampstead, N.H.) registered 20 assists.

Colby-Sawyer 3, Dean 0 – 25-16, 25-10, 26-24

Dean senior Traijan Powell (Sierra Vista, Ariz.) hit .320 to finish with a team-high nine kills. He added eight digs. Martins tallied 15 assists, five digs and two blocks. Junior Nicholas Carlson (Warwick, R.I.) collected a team best 10 digs.

Colby-Sawyer was led by a 12-kill, 10-dig performance from Plagata. Senior Eric Miller (La Grange, Ill.) posted 10 kills, while freshman Isaac Davies (Hinesburg, Vt.) contributed seven kills.

The teams went back and forth for the final few points, but Colby-Sawyer eventually prevailed for the 3-0 win.
