Bulldogs Improve to 6-1, Serve Johnson & Wales 14-4 Defeat

FRANKLIN, Mass. – March 30, 2022 – The Dean College men's lacrosse team cruised to a 14-4 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) home victory over Johnson & Wales Wednesday afternoon at Grant Field.

Dean improves to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the GNAC. The Bulldogs host Anna Maria on Saturday with an 11 a.m. start. Johnson & Wales drops to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play. The Wildcats host Saint Joseph's on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Dean sophomore Diego Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) registered seven points on four goals and three assists. Freshman Jason Richard (Holden, Mass.) and sophomore Alec Speirs (Old Lyme, Conn.) each had three goals and an assist. Senior Matt Dowd (West Haven, Conn.) recorded a game best six caused turnovers to go with four ground balls.

The Wildcats received two goals apiece from first-year Donny McInnis (North Haven, Conn.) and senior Chris Calisto (Jericho, N.Y.). Junior Mike Catuosco (Commack, N.Y.) picked up a game-high 12 ground balls.

Dean senior Alexander Govoni (Lakeville, Mass.) earned the win with an impressive 16 saves. JWU first-year goalie Trent Madigan (Ayer, Mass.) made 12 saves in the loss.

The Bulldogs scored the first two goals of the game before the Wildcats got on the board with less than four minutes to play, to make the score 2-1 heading into the second.

Dean widened its advantage to 6-1, with goals by four different players to begin the second. McInnis stopped the run for the Bulldogs, but Richard found the back of the net with 23 seconds left in the half to give Dean a 7-2 lead after 30 minutes.

The home team doubled up the Wildcats in the third with 4-2 scoring margin to hold a comfortable 11-4 lead going into the final frame.

The Dean defense held, while the offense added three more goals in the fourth, one even strength, one man up and one man down to cruise to the 14-4 victory.
