MALDEN, Mass. - March 30, 2022 - The Dean College baseball team notched its first win of the season on Wednesday with a 5-4 victory over Lesley at Pine Banks Park.
Dean (1-12) has a quick turnaround with a 4 p.m. game at Springfield on Thursday. Lesley drops to 9-11 and will play a doubleheader at New England College on Saturday.
Ryan Desmond and
Andrew Sullivan each went 2-for-4.
Sullivan put the Bulldogs on the board in the first inning with an RBI single that scored
Brian Dovidio.
Dean added two runs in the second with a two-run single by
Dan Lilja.
Lesley cut the deficit to 3-1 in the bottom of the second with a run on a sac fly.
The Bulldogs plated an unearned run in the top of the fifth, while the Lynx answered with a run on a wild pitch in the bottom half of the inning.
A Dovidio sac fly pushed the Dean lead to 5-2 in the eighth inning.
Lesley made things interesting in the bottom of the eighth with a pair of runs to pull within one, 5-4. Andrew Gryniewicz knocked in a pair with a triple but was stranded at third when the next batter grounded out to end the inning.
Austin Crowley went 4.2 innings with one earned run on one hit and four strikeouts.
Griffin Connelly followed with 3.1 innings two earned runs on three hits with four strikeouts.
Ethan Bernardo earned the save by tossing a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts.
