Baseball Earns Road Win at Springfield, 10-5

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - March 31, 2022 - The Dean baseball team won its second game in less than 24 hours with a 10-5 triumph at Springfield College Thursday afternoon.

Dean improves to 2-12 and will resume Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday with a doubleheader at Albertus Magnus. Springfield drops to 7-11.

The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first when junior Andrew Sullivan (Agawam, Mass.) knocked in a pair with a single up the middle.

Dean doubled its lead in the second with two more runs. Senior Josh Cerretani (Peabody, Mass.) tripled to right center to score senior Matty Troy (Norwalk, Conn.) and later came around on a sac fly by junior Brian Dovidio (Ramsey, N.J.).

The Pride cut the lead in half in the fourth on a two-run double from Cole Zalegowski (North Haven, Conn.).

In the bottom of the fifth, Springfield pulled within one by scoring on a bases loaded walk.

Dean pushed its lead back to 5-3 in the sixth with a Cerretani sac fly.

The Bulldogs put across five runs in the eighth inning to take a 10-3 advantage. Senior Dan Lilja (Lynn, Mass.) had a two-run single, while senior Thomas Muizulis Jr. (Waltham, Mass.) had a bases clearing triple in the frame.

Springfield scored two in the ninth on a Joe Traversa triple, but the rallied ended there as Dean won 10-5.

Dean used a pitcher by committee approach for the game and Carlos Silva (Tuscon, Ariz.) was credited with the win.

Cerretani finished 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs. Lilja and Brayden McLaughlin (Forest Grove, Ore.) each had a couple of hits.
