Women's Lacrosse Suffers Setback at USJ

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – March 29, 2022  - The Dean College women's lacrosse team dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ), 14-2, on a cold Tuesday evening.

Dean (2-6, 2-4 GNAC) will host Lasell on Saturday at 4 p.m. USJ (4-6, 2-4 GNAC) travels to Norwich on Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest. 

Junior Jazzy Sztyler-Magee (Burlington, Conn.) and first-year Nina Medeiros (Fairhaven, Mass.) each scored for Dean. Medeiros added a team-highs of six ground balls and five draw controls. 

Senior midfielder Jenna Banta (Montville, Conn.) scored six times, while junior attack Makenzie Dinger (Hingham, Mass.) scored five to lead the Blue Jays. Junior attack Cayleen DeFaranos (Northford, Conn.) contributed three assists and a goal. 

The Blue Jays outscored Dean 7-0 in the first quarter and never looked back. USJ added four in the second to lead 11-0 at the half. The home team added a pair in the third to go on top by a 13-0 score. Dean scored both its goals in the fourth and held USJ to one to account for the 14-2 final. 

Dean junior goalie Jada Fields (Acushnet, Mass.) made nine saves in the loss. Senior goalkeeper Nina Lestrud (Torrington, Conn.) had nine saves in three quarters to earn the win for the Blue Jays. Senior Silvana Barcomb (Middletown, Conn.) played the last 15 minutes and allowed two goals with one save.
