Bulldogs Celebrate Senior Night Against No. 10 Wentworth

FRANKLIN, Mass. – March 29, 2022 – The Dean College men's volleyball team dropped its home finale to No. 10 Wentworth, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Tuesday evening inside Pieri Gymnasium. The Leopards won by scores of 25-14, 25-7 and 25-12.

Prior to tonight's match, the Bulldogs honored seniors Nathan Minese (Portsmouth, R.I.) and Traijan Powell (Sierra Vista, Ariz.) for their years of dedication to the men's volleyball program and Dean College. The team also presented President Rooney with flowers and a signed ball for all that she has done for the College in her 27 years of service. mvbpres

Dean (1-20, 0-13 GNAC) travels to Colby-Sawyer for a 7 p.m. first serve on Thursday. Wentworth (23-4, 12-1 GNAC) plays a 7 p.m. match at Emmanuel on Thursday.

Dean junior Nicholas Carlson (Warwick, R.I.) led the team with four kills. Freshman Rodrigo Monteiro (Praia, Cape Verde) added three kills. Junior setter Tyler Martins (East Providence, R.I.) recorded seven assists and four digs. Junior Jake Kelley (Westminster, Mass.) had a couple of kills and a block.

Wentworth received 11 kills on .625 hitting from freshman Sam Etter (Massillon, Ohio). Freshman Dave Arellanes (North Aurora, Ill.) posted eight kills on .500 hitting along with 10 aces and nine digs. Freshman setter Josh Milke (Eastampton, N.J.) finished with 27 assists and four digs.  

The Leopards got out to a 3-1 lead before Dean went on a 4-1 run, capped by a Monteiro kill, to take a 5-4 lead over the 10th-ranked team in the nation. The set remained close when a Carlson kill kept Dean within a pair at 11-9. Wentworth then took over and went on a 7-0 run behind strong serving from senior Drew Potter (Towson, Md.). The Bulldogs scored three of the next four points, but Wentworth closed the set with a 25-14 win.

Wentworth then took the second and third sets 25-7 and 25-12 to earn the 3-0 sweep. The Leopards hit .551 as a team and collected 20 service aces.
