NEW LONDON, N.H. - March 31, 2022 - The Dean College men's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) road match at Colby-Sawyer on Thursday night. The Chargers won by scores of 25-15, 25-20 and 25-12.
Dean will conclude the regular season on Saturday with a tri-match hosted by Emerson. The team will play the Lions at 11 a.m. and Elms at 1 p.m.
Freshman
Rodrigo Monteiro (Praia, Cape Verde) led the Bulldogs with four kills. Senior
Traijan Powell (Sierra Vista, Ariz.) contributed three kills and a team best eight digs. Junior setter
Tyler Martins (East Providence, R.I.) tallied 11 assists, six digs and a couple of kills.
Orlando Plagata led all players with 12 kills. Christopher Huynh added eight kills.
The Chargers raced out to a 10-1 lead to begin the match. Colby-Sawyer later led 20-6 before Dean clawed back. The Bulldogs came within 23-15, but the home team was able to secure the next two points to take the set 25-13.
Dean scored the first four points of the second, including a couple of kills by
Corey Jackson (Fresno, Calif.). The Bulldogs then held a 14-10 advantage but Colby-Sawyer rattled off five-straight points, capped by a pair of Huynh kills, to take a 15-14 lead. Dean tied the score on the next rally, but the Chargers went on a 10-5 run to close the set, 25-20.
Colby-Sawyer used a 7-1 run to start the third en route to the 25-12 set victory.
