Women's Lacrosse Wins Second in a Row with 13-8 Triumph over Anna Maria

FRANKLIN, Mass. - March 26, 2022 - The Dean College women's lacrosse team earned its second win in a row after defeating Anna Maria, 13-8, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest Saturday afternoon.

Dean improves to 2-5 overall and 2-3 in the GNAC. The Bulldogs travel to the University of Saint Joseph on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. game. Anna Maria (2-6, 0-4 GNAC) will host Norwich on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Junior Jazzy Sztyler-Magee (Burlington, Conn.) led the Bulldogs with four goals and an assist. Junior Maire Brown (Huntington, N.Y.) also had five points on three goals and two assists to go with five ground balls. First-year Natalie Peterson (Hudson, Mass.) recorded a hat trick with an assist and five draw controls.

Anna Maria received a hat trick from sophomore Abriana Morgan (Merrimack, N.H.). Senior Ashley Rufo (Pittsfield, Mass.) filled the stat sheet with two goals, an assist, seven caused turnovers, six ground balls and a couple of draw controls.

Dean junior goalie Jada Fields (Acushnet, Mass.) made a career-high 18 saves to earn her second of the season. Anna Maria sophomore goalie Sarah Burt (Plymouth, Mass.) had 11 saves in the loss.

Sztyler-Magee opened the scoring 3:06 into the contest. The AMCATS responded by scoring the next two, but Dean would end the quarter with five unanswered goals to lead 6-2 after 15 minutes. Sztyler-Magee and Brown each had two goals in the frame.

The Bulldogs outscored Anna Maria 3-2 in the second and third quarters to hold a 12-6 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

A goal by Peterson put Dean on top 13-6 early in the fourth. The game went without a goal for nearly 10 minutes before Anna Maria found the back of the net. Rufo added another for the AMCATS to make the score 13-8 with less than three minutes to play. That is where the score would stand as Dean was able to run out the clock down the stretch.
