Men's Lacrosse Soars to 17-3 Win over Albertus Magnus

FRANKLIN, Mass. – March 26, 2022 – The Dean College men's lacrosse team improved to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) with Saturday's 17-3 victory over Albertus Magnus.

The Bulldogs will continue a three-game homestand on Wednesday against Johnson & Wales at 3:30 p.m. Albertus Magnus (4-4, 0-2 GNAC) hosts Lasell on Wednesday under the lights at 7 p.m.

Dean was led by sophomore Alec Speirs (Old Lyme, Conn.) who scored five times. He added an assist, five ground balls and four caused turnovers. Sophomore Diego Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) recorded a hat trick, three assists, five caused turnovers and four ground balls. Freshman Ryan Clunie (North Andover, Mass.) also notched a hat trick. Sophomore Tyler Benedetto (Jupiter, Fla.) won 15-of-19 faceoffs to go with nine ground balls, a goal and an assist.  

Albertus Magnus received a goal apiece from junior Charles Stewart (Stratford, Conn.), junior Zaheim Wilkins (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) and senior Jayme Toro (East Haven, Conn.). Junior Will Capalbo (Fairfield, Conn.) contributed five caused turnovers and four ground balls.

Dean senior Alexander Govoni (Lakeville, Mass.) worked the first three quarters with one goal allowed and three saves to earn the win. Junior James Rollins (Old Lyme, Conn.) allowed two goals and made three saves in the fourth quarter. Senior Dane Walsh (Bethany, Conn.) made 25 saves for Albertus Magnus.   

The Bulldogs scored five times in the first quarter, including a hat trick from Speirs, to lead 5-0 after 15 minutes.

After a Clunie goal began the second quarter for Dean, the Falcons got on the board with a man-up tally from Stewart. Clunie and Speirs added goals for the Bulldogs in the last four minutes to give the home team an 8-1 lead at the half.

Dean added four goals in the third quarter to lead 12-1 after 45 minutes.

In the fourth, the Bulldogs found the back of the net three times before Albertus Magnus scored two in a row to make the score 15-3. Dean added a pair of late goals from junior Christopher Wendt (Boonton, N.J.) and sophomore Will Brooks (Weston, Conn.) to secure the 17-3 victory.
