CHICOPEE, Mass. - March 26, 2022 - The Dean College baseball team dropped the first game of Saturday's scheduled Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opening doubleheader at Elms, 11-5. Game two was postponed due to unplayable field conditions.
Dean (0-12, 0-1 GNAC) will hope to get back to action on Tuesday against Springfield after Sunday's game against Emerson was postpond. Elms (5-6, 1-0 GNAC) travels to Lasell on Tuesday.
After a scoreless first inning, Elms put up a crooked number in the second scoring seven times on six hits.
The Blazers tacked on a run in the third to lead 8-0.
Dean broke through for three runs in the top of the fifth when senior
Josh Cerretani (Peabody, Mass.) hit a three-run homer that scored freshman
Seth Cruz (East Freetown, Mass.) and
Tommy Troy Jr. (Norwalk, Conn.). The home run was Cerretani's second of the season.
Elms responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth to retake an 8-run lead, 11-3.
The Bulldogs scored twice in the sixth, with an RBI fielder's choice by Cerretani and an RBI single from senior
Dan Lilja (Lynn, Mass.), to make the score 11-5 but that would be as close as they would get.
Lilja and
Jesse Rodriguez Jr. (Fontana, Calif.) each went 2-for-3, while Cerretani was 1-for-4 with four RBIs.
