Men's Lacrosse Suffers First Loss at Lasell, 15-8

NEWTON, Mass. - March 23, 2022 - The Dean College men's lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season with a 15-8 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) defeat to reigning conference champs Lasell. 

Dean drops to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the GNAC. The Bulldogs will look to rebound on Saturday at home against Albertus Magnus at noon. The Lasers 3-5 overall and 2-0 in the conference. The Lasers play at Rivier on Saturday at 1 p.m.

After nearly five scoreless minutes to begin the game, sophomore Alec Speirs (Old Lyme, Conn.) put the Bulldogs on top 1-0. The teams then traded the next four goals as Dean took a 3-2 lead into the second quarter. 

The teams continued to trade goals to open the second by alternating the first four goals so Dean still held a one-goal advantage at 5-4. Lasell scored three unanswered, including a pair from James Anderson, in the final seven minutes of the frame to lead 7-5 at the half.

The home team carried the momentum into the third and outscored Dean 7-1 to take a commanding 14-6 lead. 

Anderson added an insurance goal midway through the fourth quarter, before Dean added a couple late goals to make the final 15-8 in favor of the Lasers. 

Sophomore Diego Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) recorded three goals, an assist and four ground balls for the Bulldogs. Speirs finished with two assists and a goal. Junior Greg Centeio (Fairhaven, Mass.) chipped in with a goal and an assist. Senior goalie Alexander Govoni (Lakeville, Mass.) suffered the loss and made 14 saves. 

Anderson led the Lasers with four goals. Landon Reyes and Ryan Stone each added a hat trick. Jordan Hines contributed two goals and two assists. Senior Alex Beauchemin got the win for the Lasers making 11 saves.
