BUZZARDS Bay, Mass. - March 23, 2022 - The Dean College baseball team was edged by Massachusetts Maritime Academy, 4-2, in a nine-inning contest Wednesday afternoon.
Dean opens Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday at Elms with a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
The Bulldogs put a run on the board in the second inning on an RBI single from freshman
Ryan Desmond (Long Island, N.Y.) that scored junior
Andrew Sullivan (Agawam, Mass.).
The Bucs took a 2-1 lead in the bottom half of the second on a fielder's choice and a double steal.
The home team added a run on a bases loaded walk in the third and another run in the sixth on a fielder's choice to take a 4-1 lead.
Dean got a run back in the seventh with a Desmond sac fly that brought in Sullivan, but that would be the final run as Mass. Maritime hung on for the 4-2 victory.
Sullivan finished 3-for-4 with two runs for the Bulldogs, while Desmond went 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
Sophomore
Kyle Simpson (Prospect, Conn.) was saddled with the loss after four innings of work. He gave up three earned runs on six hits. Freshman
Tyler Fleet (Fall River, Mass.) tossed two scoreless innings of relief.
