Bulldogs Sweep Lesley for First Win

FRANKLIN, Mass. – March 2, 2022 – The Dean College men's volleyball team earned their first victory of the season with a 3-0 sweep of Lesley University Wednesday evening. The Bulldogs won by scores of 25-12, 25-7 and 25-21.

Dean (1-8) will resume Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) next Tuesday with a home match against Lasell at 6 p.m. The Lasers are coming off an upset victory over No. 1 Springfield last night. Lesley (0-2) plays at Colby-Sawyer on Friday.

Junior Jake Kelley (Westminster, Mass.) hit .545 to lead all players with seven kills. He added four aces for the Bulldogs. Sophomore Aaron Fonseca (Cranston, R.I.) had five kills with no errors to hit .625. Junior Tyler Martins (East Providence, R.I.) finished with 20 assists. Freshman Corey Jackson (Fresno, Calif.) and senior Traijan Powell (Sierra Vista, Ariz.) added six aces apiece.

Lesley was led by Malachi Howard (Winter Haven, Fla.). He posted six kills, five digs and three blocks.

Dean cruised to a 25-12 first set victory behind nine service aces.

In the second set, the Dean attack was nearly perfect as they converted 12 attempts into eight kills without an error to hit .667. Powell had four aces in the set, while junior Diego Harrington (North Kingstown, R.I.) added three aces.

The Lynx tried to get back into the match with a strong showing in the third, but Dean prevailed with a 25-21 victory. Howard had five of his six kills in the third to lead Lesley. Junior Hunter Meyer (Taylor Mill, Ky.) saw his first action of the season for the Bulldogs and tallied three kills in the frame. Freshman Joseph Medeiros (Fairhaven, Mass.) added two kills on five attempts for Dean.
