STANDISH, Maine – March 19, 2022 – The Dean College men's lacrosse team earned a 10-7 victory at Saint Joseph's College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener for both teams. Today's game was the first-ever meeting..
Dean improves to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the GNAC. The Bulldogs play another tough road game on Wednesday when they travel to reigning GNAC champion Lasell at 4 p.m. Saint Joseph's falls to 0-5 overall and 0-1 in the GNAC. The Monks will step out of conference play to host Southern Maine on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Diego Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) led all scorers with six goals and an assist. Freshman
Jason Richard (Holden, Mass.) added a hat trick. Sophomore
Tyler Benedetto (Jupiter, Fla.) continued to dominate the faceoff circle by winning 19-of-21 to go with 11 ground balls.
Saint Joseph's senior Nathan Varle (Saco, Maine) registered three goals and two assists to lead the Monks. Junior Xavier Michaud (Wales, Maine) added a pair of goals.
Dean senior
Alexander Govoni (Lakeville, Mass.) moved to 4-0 with 15 saves. Saint Joseph's junior Brannon Gilbert (Gray, Maine) finished with 19 saves in the loss.
The Monks got on the board first at 9:16, but Dean took the ensuing faceoff down the field and tied the game two seconds later. Saint Joseph's scored less than three minutes later and took a 2-1 lead into the second quarter.
Dean settled down in the second and scored five times, while holding the Monks without a goal.
Diego Alvarez-Segee scored three times in the frame to help give the Bulldogs a 6-2 lead at the half.
Saint Joseph's cut the deficit to 6-4 with a pair of goals from Nathan Varle to begin the third. The teams then traded the next two goals to keep Dean with a two-goal advantage.
Jason Richard added a goal later in the quarter to put the Bulldogs on top 8-5 after 45 minutes.
The home team opened the fourth frame with two goals to pull within 8-7. Alvarez-Segee responded with two goals of his own to push the Dean advantage to 10-7 with 3:39 to play and that would be the final.
